Wasps and Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) are teaming up to make sure that December 24 is one to remember – at real Christmas Cracker! Wasps tackle Bath at the Ricoh Arena on Christmas Eve (kick off 2.00pm) as they look to go the whole of 2016 with an unbeaten home record in all competitions. Knowing that there will be people out there that will need to do some last-minute shopping, but also want to go to the game, Coventry BID and Wasps are working in partnership to organise #XmasAllWrappedUp. Those who will need to get some gifts on the day are being encouraged to head into the city centre first thing in the morning and then over to the Ricoh Arena for the pre-match entertainment and rugby in the afternoon. To make sure everyone can get to and from the match, shuttle buses are being organised from the city centre before the match and also afterwards. The buses can be caught from 11am at Coventry Railway Station and then will take sports fans back to the station, costing £2 each way per person. Coventry BID will be hosting entertainment during the day, to make sure everyone is in the festive spirit. Carol singers will be based by the Christmas Village in Broadgate performing a whole host of songs, not only that, there will also be live reindeer paying a visit as well. Families will be able to have their photos taken with reindeer and there may be a Wasps Santa hat or two for people to wear in the pictures and show their support for the team. But it doesn’t end there as the Fan Village will be open at the Ricoh Arena between 11.30am until 1.30pm featuring a whole host of entertainment including live band, festive Wasps Interactive Zone, kick-for-goal, netball, golf, dancers, local choir and carols, as well as the Wasps carvery, bars and mince pies! Based within the Fan Village will be a Christmas gift wrapping station manned by a team of festive volunteers and Wasps players. There will be a chance for everyone, including those who have come from Coventry city centre, to get presents wrapped up – giving them one less job to do when they get home. All people will have to do is make a small charity donation and then the cash will be handed over to Wasps charity partner, Zoe’s Place. Trish Willetts, Coventry BID manager, said she wanted everyone to get into the Christmas spirit and show their support for city centre businesses and Wasps. “What a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas Eve,” said Trish. “Everyone can come down to the city centre, get everything that they need in our wonderful stores and enjoy the entertainment. “They can then head over to the Ricoh Arena for the Wasps game and have their gifts wrapped – Christmas really is all wrapped up.” Rob Mitchell, head of marketing for Wasps and the Ricoh Arena, added: “Working in partnership with Coventry BID seemed like the perfect opportunity for the Christmas Eve clash with Bath. “What better way to enjoy the day than get those last few gifts, have them wrapped for you, support Zoe’s Place and watch a great game of rugby. Then to top off our Christmas Cracker, we have a fireworks display at the end of the game.” Wasps will also be putting on additional matchday services to make it easier for the whole family to get to and from the Ricoh Arena for the Christmas Cracker against Bath. Coach travel will be available from Bedworth, Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Nuneaton. For further information or to book tickets for the game or travel visit www.wasps.co.uk.
