No shopping trip is complete (or for some, bearable) without the obligatory stop for coffee.

While many will choose the familiar surroundings of a chain outlet, more and more people are turning to independent coffee shops.

The team at Coventry Today has compiled a list of their favourite independent coffee shops in the city centre.  Try them out and support independent traders in Coventry!

Finneys CoventryFinney’s Coffee

Finney’s is a hidden gem, and a place many may not be familiar with as it is somewhat off the beaten track. Located on Warwick Road on the way to Coventry Station, this recently opened establishment offers great coffee in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The decor and furnishing is finished to an exceptional standard and Finney’s is a welcome departure from the dreary and uniform chain outlets that dominate the market.

Bagel Brunch CoventryBagel Brunch

While Bagel Brunch might be considered more of a cafe than a coffee shop, it has deservedly found its way on to this list thanks to its outstanding coffee and exemplary service. The bagels aren’t too shabby either and the choice is excellent.

Bagel Brunch is located on Smithford Way opposite the entrance to West Orchards.

Rising Cafe CoventryRising Cafe

OK, so we’re stretching things a little here, because this is far from just a coffee shop, although the coffee IS exceptional. Rising Cafe is located on Priory Street in the basement area of Coventry Cathedral. It serves a range of hot drinks, cakes and has a menu of full of re-worked classics; all served with a touch of the 1940s – a nostalgic theme that works brilliantly. The number one place to eat in Coventry according to Tripadvisor, and it’s hard to argue with that.

Rising Cafe is run by previously homeless and substance-addicted men and women and 100% of proceeds go directly towards funding their recovery, and that of many others around the country.
