Unique Christmas cruises along the five and a half mile stretch of the Coventry Canal are being offered by an environmental charity.

To get into the festive spirit The Living Environment Trust is hosting a number of events in the run-up to December 25. The events on the 70ft Coventrian narrowboat are tailored to suit everyone including families and sports fans so they can enjoy something a little different during the season of goodwill.

Lunch and dinner cruises will run during December as well as a chance to meet Santa. The Wasps water taxi will also be in operation for their matches against Connacht on December 11 (1pm kick-off) and Bath on Christmas Eve (2pm kick-off). Raffaella Tentindo, from the Living Environment Trust, said that the Yuletide activities offered something a little different for everyone to get involved with.

“Cruising down Coventry’s canal on the Coventrian provides everyone with a chance to celebrate the season in a completely unique way,” she said.

“We have a delicious menu on offer for diners to come and treat themselves to a trip down the canal with our Christmas cruises.

“Santa will also be taking time out of his busy schedule and swapping his reindeer for the Coventrian which is a fun way for youngsters to meet the man himself.

“The Wasps Water Taxi will also be in operation for two matches that the Wasps are playing during the month creating a fun way to get to the games.”

A Christmas Lunch Cruise will go ahead on December 4, and dinner cruises will operate on December 10 and 16.

Roast turkey with stuffing balls will be on the menu, along with pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes, peas, carrots, sprouts and pan made turkey gravy. A vegetarian option will also be available on the trips. For dessert, it will be apple crumble and custard, Christmas pudding and custard or cheese and biscuits.

Santa will be coming aboard the Coventrian on December 18, just in time to get youngsters excited for Christmas day. The Christmas lunch and dinners are charged at £25 per person or £15 per child under 11-years-old. They all depart from and return to Swan Lane Wharf.

The Wasps Taxi Cruises are one way from Canal Basin at £10 – which includes a hot batch and a hot drink – or £5 from Hawkesbury Junction – no hot batch included.

There is 10% off for season ticket holders that board from Canal Basin.

The price to meet Santa on the Coventrian is £10 per child and £3 per adult.
