With the Sky Blues out of action this weekend, the focus turned to our two senior non-league sides who were both in Midland Football League Premier Division action.

Coventry Sphinx fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Alvechurch having been reduced to 10 men on 30 minutes following the dismissal of Luke Downes. Two first-half goals were enough for the visitors and Sphinx now sit 14th in the table.

It was a different story for Coventry United who recorded a 2-0 away victory at St Andrews FC thanks to goals from Ben Mackey and Joshua O’Grady. United move up to 11th in the table and have games in hand over all the teams above them.

Coventry United Ladies maintained their unbeaten start to the season following a 5-0 thumping of QPR Ladies at Pack Meadow earlier today. CULFC sit second in the table.

Coventry RFC had another difficult day, suffering a 34-14 defeat away at Esher. Cov are 14th in National League One having lost four of their opening six games.

Coventry Blaze got off to a winning start this weekend with a 3-2 overtime victory in Cardiff. They are in Elite League action again tonight when they host Fife Flyers at the Sky Dome Arena.
