A proposal to remove the ‘bridge link’ between the Council House and Civic Centre 3 has been submitted for planning approval.

The proposed scheme seeks to remove the unpopular copper clad bridge, allowing the façade of the Council House to be returned to something approaching its original appearance, enhancing the overall quality of the Listed Building.

The plans form part of a wider reorganisation of council facilities, which will see a number of buildings close and staff relocate to the new council HQ at Friargate. Civic Centre 3 and three other civic buildings between Little Park Street and Much Park Street were sold to Coventry Univeristy in 2014 in a deal said to be worth £125 million.

Coventry University has said it plans to demolish the civic centre and replace it with a facilities complex, although detailed proposals have yet to be published.
