United created plenty of chances throughout the match and although Walsall’s more direct game brought them chances of their own, United eased to a 2-0 win with a strong overall team performance. Coventry demonstrated clever build up play, with early chances falling to Ben Mackey who could only shoot wide and Tommy Glasscoe who’s shot was saved by a defender off the line. Joey Butlin brought a great save from home keeper Richard Morris after just half an hour. After trickery from Courtney Cameron and O’Grady deceived the Walsall backline Glasscoe delivered a first time cross to Mackey who’s header hit the bar with the keeper beaten. Just when it seemed the red and greens might dominate yet not be clinical in their finishing, they turned the screw on their opponents. O’Grady picked up the ball and cut inside the Walsall defence before sending a glorious shot high into the air, that curled and dipped into the top far corner past the hapless Arnold who could have done little to stop it. O’Grady then set up right back Pierre Moudime but his first time effort was tipped wide. Just before half time came a pivotal point in the match as Richard Morris was once again called into action. A long high cross to the far post caught the Coventry defence on the back foot and Morris had to be alert to palm a strongly hit volley onto the bar before safely smothering a deflected close range shot A long ball from United found the impressive O’Grady with his back to goal, a chest down controlled the ball well before being fouled. To the surprise of most watching, it had looked like it was just outside the box, a penalty was awarded which later replays showed was a good decision by the referee. Cox’s effort from the spot was saved by Arnold before Prinzel’s drilled rebound deflected off Cox and into the corner of the net to effectively win the game. Before the game Chris Cox was presented with the Player of the Month Award for November.
